Wedding DJ vs. Live Band

There are positive and negative aspects to choosing a wedding band or DJ for a wedding. A band requires more setup time and more human components to make things work. A DJ is going to be able to instantly match the mood of the crowd with the appropriate music. Changing between various live music sets and programmed DJ beats may keep the crowd entertained.

A DJ may provide breaks between sets of music during a long evening. A DJ is also going to have an extensive repertoire of almost any type of music to play our mix into a song in any given moment. A wedding band is typically found at more formal events, and wedding bands add the classic wedding feel to a reception.

The musical component of any wedding must follow the sentimental and emotional roots of the event. If a band is slow between songs or is not flexible enough to change sets, the mood may pall. Likewise, a DJ that is too aggressive in contemporary may spoil a traditional event. A live band is the more traditional approach.

A Live Band

A band should have a live demonstration of past performance capability.

A band for a wedding should be able to play planned music, both fast and slow songs.

Wedding DJs should be sure they don't become the center of attention - they are only one part of the bride and groom's special day.
